Foundations And Beyond Horsemanship

Our favorite; because we can help the greatest number of people and horses by teaching them in a clinic group. We limit the size of the group to allow both the benefits of group setting learning, where we can all interact and learn from not only our own horse and owner interactions but those of our fellow participants, yet small enough that there is plenty of one on one instruction. We keep it a small enough group that Ted and his assistants can keep up with helping any students that are not able or confident to execute any of the exercises initially. (For situations such as a student that is physically limited and/or having difficulties with an exercise, or maybe is on a colt and is nervous to canter their horse themselves, etc. etc.)
Clinics can be customized to address the concerns and needs of the participants but in general, or most commonly, they are three full days or five evenings and one full day. Our goal is that everyone leaves with a good bunch of tools (exercises) which they have learned to use well and which increase their safety and their confidence with their horses. Pricing for standard confidence and control clinics as outlined above is $350 per participant and horse. Colt starting or other customized clinics are priced according to the particulars (location and number of days and participants) of the actual clinic. At all clinics and/or private lessons each horse and handler team is allowed a helper to audit without charge. Additional spectators are $10 per day to observe.
We hold clinics at our property near Parma, Idaho or anywhere a group of people wants us to come, assuming that adequate facilities exist. Extra costs associated with traveling to a clinic location will be added on to the clinic fees.

They are essentially like a clinic but with a smaller group of students and can be more tailored to individual participants as there are one to three students at a private lesson. The cost is $300 per day at our property with a minimum two day requirement. We allow two days as we understand it can be very difficult for our clients to dedicate three days in a row but we do recommend three days minimum as we believe that to be far more beneficial. These are a fantastic option for folks who want a three day clinic but need to schedule it on their own time frame. All you have to do is get two friends to go in with you and the lesson cost is exactly the same as a clinic! (Note - for out of area lessons you will also need to pay for Ted's travel and accommodations. But - we're not fussy, put us up and feed us and we're good! :) )

We take in very limited numbers of outside horses for training. The cost is currently $1600 with feed, fly spray, etc. and hoof care supplied by the owner. Typically the training period is six weeks, although there is some variation in how long each horse takes to get through the program. A horse brought here for training will learn all of the exercises in the fundamental level of the Downunder Horsemanship Method. We are supportive of barefoot horses and will gladly use easy boots (and we do have a competent barefoot trimmer here!) if boots are provided. We require horse owners bringing a horse to agree to spend a day going over the training the horse has received upon pick up of their horse. Typically this takes about six hours. Some clients choose to spend shorter work sessions spread over several days to go over their horses training. This type of option is fine, we just want to make sure you know what your horse has learned and how to use it.
We now offer owners of horses that were trained here a fifty dollar discount on clinic participation fees if bringing a Foundations and Beyond trained horse to a clinic.

Beth Nicholes (one of Ted’s daughters) gives lessons for your young horse handlers! She is currently accepting students ages 6-13. Beth is more than just a riding lesson instructor, she is also teaching her students about horses; why they behave the way they do and how we need to interact with them to have safe, fun partnerships with our equines. She also teaches her students basic riding skills and several groundwork exercises. Private lessons are available at $25 an hour and can be scheduled at your convenience (at least a week in advance). They can also be scheduled however often you wish. Lesson horses and ponies are provided. For more information or to schedule a lesson, contact Beth at 541-823-6506 or by e-mail at .

Terrence Nicholes (one of Ted's sons) is a natural hoofcare provider. He has been studying and applying Pete Ramey's methods for four years on both rehabilitation and maintenance cases.
